Meet the Team

Bill Beaney

In a game often dictated by structure and rigid systems, Bill Beaney has been a pioneer in rethinking how hockey is taught. He is widely recognized as the early champion of small-area games, a player-development approach now embraced at all levels of the sport. Long before it became mainstream, he saw the value in letting the game be the teacher, a philosophy that shaped how generations of players learned and competed.

As the longtime head coach of Middlebury College Men’s Ice Hockey, Beaney built a dynasty, leading the program to eight NCAA Division III national championships and cementing Middlebury’s reputation as one of the premier programs in the country. His success was never just about winning—it was about innovation, adaptation (process), and an unwavering commitment to the purity of teaching the game.

Beyond hockey, Beaney’s impact extends across sports, including his contributions to Middlebury’s men’s golf team and his role as a mentor to countless coaches. His philosophy is centered on teaching, learning, and empowering athletes to take ownership of their development, ensuring that success is not just measured in championships but in the growth of individuals both on and off the field. A true innovator and lifelong educator, Beaney’s influence on coaching and player development continues to shape the future of the game.

Damian DiGiulian

With a career spanning over three decades in collegiate hockey, Damian DiGiulian has built a reputation as both a tactical innovator and a mentor for players and coaches alike. He has served as the head coach at Saint Michael’s College, an assistant coach at Division I The University of Vermont, and has been a key figure in USA Hockey’s development initiatives.Damian has coached and recruited NHL All-Stars, Olympic gold medalists, and college All-Americans.

Known for his ability to blend strategy with player development, DiGiulian has worked extensively with teams to cultivate standards of excellence, accountability, and adaptability. His approach is rooted in coaching with intent, helping coaches build a clear set of standards that foster purposeful leadership and drive team success. His influence extends beyond the bench, as he has been instrumental in shaping the next generation of hockey coaches through mentorship, leadership training, and an emphasis on intentional coaching practices.

Passionate about the evolution of coaching, he believes that great coaches are those who never stop learning and never stop pushing themselves and their teams to improve. DiGiulian also hosts “The Assistant” podcast, which fosters collaboration and knowledge-sharing among coaches for mutual growth. His passion lies in working one-on-one with coaches, particularly guiding young professionals as they navigate the challenges of the coaching world and strive to lead with clarity and purpose.

Erick Dalton

With a career in athletics spanning over two decades, Erick Dalton brings extensive experience in professional baseball, blending scouting, coaching, and strategy at the highest levels. As a special assignment scout for the Philadelphia Phillies, he has played a pivotal role in roster construction, player evaluation, and modernizing decision-making processes within baseball operations. Before that, as Director of Advance Scouting for the Washington Nationals, he helped establish a World Series-winning culture by integrating analytics, scouting, and player development to give players and coaches a competitive edge.

Dalton’s career was shaped early on by adversity. His hockey journey was cut short after a severe neck injury during his freshman year at Middlebury, abruptly ending his playing days and forcing him to redefine his relationship with sports. Instead of stepping away, he stayed

connected to the game, serving as an assistant coach under Bill Beaney and playing a key role in Middlebury’s 2004 National Championship. This experience ignited his passion for coaching and mentorship, solidifying his belief that true growth often emerges from discomfort and overcoming challenges.

Beyond baseball, Dalton has influenced athlete development as an educator, teaching the January term course “Coaching and Issues in Sport” at Middlebury College. His journey reflects the core values of TLX: resilience, adaptability, and the drive to turn setbacks into opportunities.
